CASUALTIES.

Andrew Docherty, 40 years of age, c married man, was accidentally killed at the Catlin's River liailwaj works while bush-felling on Wednesday morning. An inquest was held at Owaka on Thursday : He and a mate were running away from a falling tree, which struck another and swerved, crushing Docherty to death. He was a married man, aged 33, and came .from Ranfurly some time ago to the Catlins extension: A verdict of accidental death was returned. D. Kenny, middle-aged, employed as a ganger at the Frankton Junction Station, was seriously crushed during Tuesday night between a tiunck and tiie coal stage. Ha was removed to the hospital suffering from a fractured pelvis and internal injuries. His condition is serious. At the inquest at Invercargill on James Movie, killed by falling down a lift, the verdict was that death was due to accident, no blame being attachable to anyone. A rider was added that an answering signal should be given from the engine to the top of the other floor in all lifts. A man named William Howarth dropped dead at the Trentham Racecourse on Saturday. The cause of the act is unknown. He was married, and leaves several children. David Boux Buisson. died at Wanganui on the 24th inst. as the result of taking a solution of matchheads on Friday. The cause is supposed to be worry over losing the license of his billiard room at the last- meeting of the Borough Council, which was taken away owing to his being fined £lO for keeping a gaming house. Deceased was formerly a hotelkeeper here. He leaves a wife and family. At the inquest a verdict of suicide while temporary insane was returned. Early on Monday afternoon the body of a child was picked uout of the Avon River in the upper readies near Wairarapa terrace. The body was first noticed by a man named Bennett, who told another man named Lavraman of what he had seen. Larraman brought the body to the shore with a stick, and' lifted it out of the water on to the river bank. The body, was quite naked, and had evidently been in the water for some . time, for it was being discoloured and somewhat decomposed. The right foot Was missing, having presumably been bitten off by eels. I The polioe took possession of the body ! and removed it to the morgue. The body, found is that of a stillborn child. No inquest will therefore be held.
