WEST TAIERI HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

Beautiful weather prevailed' for the annual summer show of the West Taiori Horticultural Society, held at Outra.ra on the Bth. The entries were not nearly so good as last year —-some 60 less. This was most noticeable in pot plants and vegetable's. On the whole the show was good. There was very little celling for special mention; but a good deal of notice was taken of some flowers for exhibition only. Foremost amongst these was the collection of beautiful carnations shown by Mr S. Solomon, K.C., Dunedin. Another exhibit -was a bunch of very fine cactus dahlias exhibited iby Mias Carrutbers. In the out flowers Mrs D. E. Grant’s and Miss Carruthers’s exhibits of roses were much admired, while Mrs James Dow’s collection of cut flowers would have been hard to beat. Mr F. Parson’s collection' of stocks and Mr J. R. Nichol’s. spikes of the same flower were a. feature of the class. Mr J. T. Nichol’s collection of roses attracted a good deal of attention. As usual, the baking dar-pes contained nothing but high-class articles—such as the Taio.ri women folks have a reputation for producing. The total entries were 256. In the evening a large number visited the show. Messrs J. Newman and George Harvey judged the flowers and vegetables, and Miss Tweed, Wylie's Crossing, the preserved fruit, baking, etc. Mr C. Alills made an efficient and obliging secretary. The following is the prize-list: PLANTS IN POTS.
