A cheap door stain, is made by dissolving permanganate of potash in warm water, giving one or two coats to the boards, and when thoroughly dry polishing with beeswax and turpentine. There must always be a certain, amount of dust from breaking up the large lumps of coal, and if this be mixed with a little water and some small pieces of coke il will be found most useful for burning. A little of it placed on top of a good fire will keep it burning well for a long time. Ashes ought always to be sifted.
