WOMEN’S CHRISTIAN TEMPERANCE UNION.
The W.C.T. H. holds its annual convention in Invercargill on February 9. As it is now just 25 years since the union was organised in the Dominion, the occasion is to be made a special one, and while the /usual business will be transacted during (the day time, the evenings will be devoted to celebrations. The programme is a full ‘lone. There are; to be a Frances Willard might, a congress of nations, and an evening devoted to “Reminiscences of the liWork in New Zealand.” The Rev. Mr Mitchell is to preach a special sermon on Tho Sunday, and the convention will attend fan a body* There is to be a openiair service at the Fallen Soldiers’ Me’jmorial, and probably a parade afterwards. (An autograph album, with names ana favourite quotations from most of the prominent workers in the Dominion, is being •published, and will bo issued at this con■vention; also a post-card (designed by one of tho vice-presidents of the Dunedin (Union), showing a bit of Now Zealand
scenery, with native trees, and the wellknown motto, “ For God, Home, ana Humanity.” Those will be regarded as commemorative of the twenty-fifth convention, and will ho pleasing souvenirs to gem. abroad. Tho 01 ago unions are not only sending delegates, but will also contribute largely to the number of visitors going south. At a special meeting of tho executive held on. the 13th Mrs Blair (president) and Mrs Kirkland were chosen as delegates, while almost every member of the executive expressed her intention to be presen. on this auspicious occasion. Miss Powell (secretary for the Dominion) was present, and gave information about trains, etc. She is r-n her way south to help in making arrangements for the gathering.
