The new pipe-line which is to supiply Palmerston with water will connect upi with the town i-eticulation in about a few days, and the inconvenience that residents of the borough are at present suffering owing to lack of an adequate quantity of water will come to an end.; 1 This is the third scheme that has been tried by Palmerston, and consists of bringing water from the Blue Mountains, six miles away, where the discharge from a couple of springs has been gathered up by means of a cheaply-constructed weir. Tho first scheme provided for water beingi pumped from the ground by means of? windmills, and collected in a reservoir, and, when this <proved unsatisfactory, the pump. in,g apparatus was worked in conjunction with a floui-mill within handy distance o! the town. The latter arrangement is now to be superseded by the pipe-line, which; is being constructed at a reasonable cost.. The amount of expenditure in which the borough will be involved on account of the innovation is expected to be between £3OOO and £4OOO.
