The Kaiser was present at the inaugural lectures delivered on October 30 at the Berlin University by Dr Wheeler and Dr Moore, who, under the arrangement for an exchange of professors between America and Germany, will lecture in Berlin
during the coming year. A new tax has been imposed in Germany on the importation of ma-tehee. Some remarkable figures are published in this connection. Th© quantity of matches imported in July and August was nearly 100 times as great as that imported in the corresponding months of last year. The tax came into operation on October 1.
