THE GISBORNE DISTRICT.
INCREASE IN PRODUCTION. GISBORNE, January 10. For December the Kia Ora Dairying Company paid its suppliers the record sum of £3600 for butter-fat. For the year 1909, for the first time in the history- of the district, the exports . from Poverty Bay amounted to over a million sterling. The actual figures were £1,040,621. Ln 1908 the amount was £865,159, and in 3907 just under the million. During the quarter ended June 30, 1909, 27cwfc of cheese, valued at £7O, the first exported for many years, was sent out, and in the quarter ended December 31, the first export of barley—namely, 6220 bushels, valued at £7OO —was made.
