The Amalgamated Society of Railway Servants has just elected representatives by ballot for its biennial conference, which will open in Wellington early next month. A very lengthy order paper has to be considered by the conference, chief among the items being the consideration of schemes for the society's internal reorganisation submitted by the Otago and Wanganui branches. If a. railwayman dies while in active employment his widow and family receive pensions, but this privilege does not apply once the employee has drawn superannuation. The Executive Council of the society will submit a motion in favour of inaugurating a sick benefit fund for rail-
