'lhe.-e wires bore the tek>jrraph o^ite '-tamp as having been handed in haii an hour before the races were run. but inquiries showed that the wires had never pa.sscd through the office. Hanlen appeared before the court this morning, pud ■was remanded till Monday on bail. A.shcroft wa- arrc.-ted at Palmerhton North, and nas remanded to appear here.
