IN THE NIGHT
The hollow thunder from the reefa Of seas that roll for ever, Expressing an Immortal's grief— A God-like Never! never! Tie ruxu from the Emm's gloom, Calls earlier to-night, And echo answers echo's boom Beneath the vast, dim height. © spirit of the ghostly breeze, Why haunt this hungry place? Give back, yet crowding memories', And leave «' little space.' In numerous constellations dome The weird and lonely wild, And round about our desert home Mya teutons crags are piled. Age after age- the race has striven—Is man. so soon to die? To know no further hell or heaven, No" immortality? O list the thunder from the reefs Far echoed 'neath the range.
