At a social adjourned meeting _of the committee of the Otago Cricket Association to consider the question of the appointment of a coach for ihe coming season. Those pie&snt were Messrs J. J. Clark (chairman), C. G. W'Json, J. Hope, C. Gooch, T. Ritchie, J. Clarke, A. Nelson, and G. Wycherley. At a meeting of the committee, held on the previous night, the applications received from Australia for the position of coach, to the number of over a dozen, were considered, asd reduced to five, and these were further dealt with last evening in committee. The outcome of the meeting's deliberat.ons is that Mr C. Wordsworth, who acted as the association's coach in Dunedin last season, has been re-appointed to the position on the same terms as formerly — namely, £3 rer week and passage paid to New Zealand. Mr Wordsworth is, at present residing in Sydney, and in his application to the association stated that he had quite recovered .n health. His appointment last evening was made subject to confirmation of his complete recovery in health. The motion for the appointment of Mr Words >vorth was carried by five votes to three, those voting against it being Messrs Clark, Nelson, and Wycherley. With the arrangements that have been made by Mr C R. Smith at Home with a famous cricketer, whose name cannot yet be made known, and who will take up his rpsidence in Dunedin 'about December next, local cricketers should be well catered for during the coming season. It was decided that First and Second Grade matches commence on Saturday, i October 16, and Thud and Fourth Grade matches a week later. Entries of the teams require to be lodged 10 duys before the seaeon opens.
