THE TAINUFS CONTINGENT. WELLINGTON. October 4.
I By the Tainui to-day there arrived, ' among others, 406 passengers in the third class. Of these, - 144 are assisted , 66 . adultfa (47 women and 19 men and 34 children) nominated by relatives in New ! Zealand, and 44 travellers approved by I the High Comrrtissioner. The latter were made up of 20 women, 14 men, and 10 children. Included amongst these are 23 domestics, 5 frrm labourers, 11 farmers, 1 horsebreaker, 1 dairyman, 2 ploughmen, and 22 wives (and children) who are coming out to rejoin their husbands. The capital ranges from £210 to £25. Mr Danby (Chief Immigration Officer) informed a Post reporter that the immigrants are up to the average. During the voyage a married woman suffering from consumption died, also a I four months old baby.
