SOUTHLAND.
The executive of the Southland Trades and Labour Council has been advised that the Cabinet has decided not to grant free railway passes to delegates to the annual conference of councils to be held at Wellington on the 25th inst. The first conference between the sawmill workers and the members of the Sawmillers' Association to discus the new schedule presented by the employers recently was held on the 4th and proved abortive. It is possible that a reference may be filed for the consideration of the Conciliation Commissioner.
