October 4.— So far we have had *n excellent spring, and gra=t and crorv* are coming on splendidly. Fruit trees have a great profusion of flowers, and promi.-e a good crop. Owing to the superabundance of the turnip crop some nave been ploughed down, a gveat contrast to last year. Entertainments. — The bachelors of Milburn and Clarendon hpld their annual ball in th& Clarendon Hall, and it was well ■attended The 6pmstsrs and benedicts also ?ra\e a ball, and this was fairly well attonded General. — Mr J. Perrin. prrter at Milburn Station, has been trans ferred to Palmerston During his stay here he madea larere circle of friends, and .he will be missed. The now stationmasfcers' houeo is almost completed, and presents a good appearance. Mr J. Watt left last week for Wellington, where he intends to go into the fruit trade. Nominations were called at yesterday morning's service for th© position on th© Church Committee rendered vacant by the death of Mr' Robinson. Mr W Hare was elecetd. Church Anniversary.— Th© anniversary servioee of the church were conducted by

the Rev. H. B. Gray, of N.E. Valley, and ' Mt Somerville, there being good! ongregations. The annual social was very largely attended, the takings being a record since th© opening social. The Rev. W. H. Howes presided, and was supported by Rev Mr Seorgie, who gave a splendid address on, "Happiness," and added some particulars about Queensland. A strong choir and orchestra rendered anthems In a creditable manner, and solos were sung by Miss E. Smith and Messrs Halford and Webb. Miss Hamilton gave a splendid recitation. Th© ladies provided refreshments. Altogether the social was on© of the most successful ever held here. The accompaniments were played by Rev. Howes and Miss Kate Chalmers.
