TALISMAN SHARES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) WELLINGTON, October 3. On being seen with reference to the 6udden fall in the price of Talisman shares, Mr Weston, who has jusfc returned from the mine, said that the management had followed the eastern of the two branches into which the main reef south at No. 13 had split. Appearances went rather to show that the western branch which carried the higher values had not yet junctioned with the eastern branch. The management was now stripping the eastern branch reef back in order to determine this point, and the -nork should be completed next week. The fact that all the water was coming in from fissures on the western side of the branch followed suggested strongly that there was a reef lying out to the westward of the branch now being followed. This might be either the western branch or another reef entirely, or both. The management intended putting out a crosscut (in this direction as soon as that work could be done in fitting with the other work of the mine. It was _ impossible sometimes when large operations were being carried on, as in the Talisman, to undertake a particular work at once, however interesting the problem and however aJixiout; the management might be_ to cove it. as by doing so the economical working of the mine was materially interfered with. At present the situation at No. 13 south was full of important possibilities, and permanent investing shareholders must wait patienty until further development work took place. They could rest assured that the management was pushing this forward as fa»t as it economically could immediately over the point now reached on the ea-tern branch of Xo 13. The reef at the No. 12 level pinched for a short distancp, and then -widened out again and gave good value.
