THE NEW DIRECTOR. CHRISTCHURCH, . March 15. -_ information received here in Tegard co ~^lr Robert Al-exander, who was recently " Appointed director of the Canterbury (Lincola) Agricultural College, is to the effect, that he hails from Londonderry, in the 'North of Ireland. He spent about 20 years on his father's farm, obtained ctiplomas at Royal College of Science in j>ublin, and afterwards, for two years, _. Ivas lecturer on agriculture in Londonderry. His next appointment was as leoituTer on agriculture at Albert College, felasnevin, Dublin, where he also had

charge of the farm attached to the college. He is reported to be a first-class disciplinarian, and to get on well with the students under him. Mr Alexander is expected to arrive in the Dominion about the middle of Apiil. and locally it is considered he will be an acquisition, and a worthy puccessor to "Mr Lowrie, the previous director, Mr Alexander is not only a scientific farmer, but also a thoroughly practical agriculturist.
