At the inquest into the causes of the fire which destroyed tlte East Coast Ma^l office and other buildings on January 5, the jury returned a verdict that they were unanimously of the opinion that the building occupied by the Mail -was set ooi hre by sonve person or peisons unknown, and thai? the total cLsappsdianoe of all the books of the Wairoa Printing and Publishing Company remains a my -tery to the juiv. WAIROA. Januaiy 15 Poition of a ledger was found :n the dobris of the reoent fire, shoeing the balances to Sept-ember 30, and entrie* in December; also the «Ncr of the share register. These were handed to the police. This disposes mi the allegation regarding the disappearance of the books of the company, which, the jury said was a mystery.
