THE WAITARA TRAGEDY.
NEW PLYMOUTH January 16. Dr Q-oode is stall too ill to appear before the court in answer to the charge of murder, and lias been remanded till th 9 23rd. There are (says the Southland Times) 123 reoidence^ in th© Southland education district. Of this number only 13 have bathrooms, 110 have sculleries, 46 have washhouses, and 20 have coalsheds. Eighteen* residences have two rooms, nine have three rooms, 45 ha\e four rooms, 26 have fiv« rooms, 20 ha^ c six rooms, and five tavj( seven roonio. Mr Tom L. Johnson, Mayor of Cleveland, one of the best known advocates of muni* oipal ownership in America, announces that his entire fortune has been lest. At on« time he was reported to be worth 5.000,00 d dollars (£1,000,000). It is believed that hi* misfortune is largely the result of his self* sacrificing efforts in connection \vtih muni' oipal administration in Cleveland.
