January 18. — A well-attended meeting of hospital subscribers was hold in the Dn!l*hed to elect a member of the Hospital Trustee^, the Major (Mr Franci-) presiding. The two candidates — Messrs talker and Alwill — addressed the meeting-. Mr Walkei aihocated that instead of tho present system of having a supei intending doctcr at a salary of £250 per annum the doctors should takr> the po-ition in rotation. He would also give other doctors the opportunity of using the operating room. Mr Atwill was in favour of continuing the present system, belie\ ing the change suggested would lead to friction. Mr Atwill wa« eieet-ed. Mounted Rifles. — The Srudhotme Mounted Rifles ha\e been unfortunate as re^peei* weather for their camp, but despite thi~ ha\e, under Sergeant-maiov Clements, put m a week's useful work. Lieutenantcolonel Hawkin* inspected the corps, giving the men five hours' practical work in Knottingly Park, and expressed himself as \ery pleased with the knowledge shown of fieki work.
