The premises of Mr Jarman, known as the Royal Cafe, in Norwich quay, Lyttelton, were entered on the sth and a large quantity of table cutlery valued at about £10 stolen. It is supposed that an entrance was effected through a door or •window at the rear of the building. At the Timaru Magistrate's Court James Black, a resident of Washdyke for 12 or 14 J'ears, pleaded guilty and was fined £5, in default one month, for the theft of a number of domestic utensils from the house of a neighbour in the latter 's absence. orderly behaviour in a train, abstracted £4 odd from the pockets of his mate in the hptel during -the night, pleaded guilty, and then absconded, was to-day sentenced to three months' imprisonment. During the school holidays in Temuka the boys have been making a raid on the small birds, and the result has been heavy demands on the funds placed by the County Council in the hands of road boards to pay for birds. One board has already spent £207 39s for heads and birds. On Saturday last one boy had brought in 220 dozen. At a meeting of the New Zealand Utility Poultry Club the president stated that nearly £2000 had been expended in the maintenance of the four egg-laying competitions held by the club at Lincoln, and congratulated the club, which was formed four years ago without any capital, on being the only club of its kind out ot debt and able to show a credit balance. He said that nsore than £850 had been paid for buildings and wages, and £500 expended in buildings had never been looked upon as an asset by the club. Mr William Nosworthy, who successfully contested the Ashburtoii seat, has filed his election expenses as follow*: — First ballot £169 6s sd, second ballot £49 9s Bd"— total, £218 16s Id.
