CHEAPER CABLEGRAMS.
LONDON, January 7. Mr Lemieux (the Canadian Postmastergeneral), when interviewed in Canada, said that further conference with the ( Imperial Government was necessary before a reduction in the Atlantic cable rate could be arranged. OTTAWA. January 6. The British, and Canadian Governments are considering a twopenny Atlantic cable rate, bsginning on Ist July next, if thecable companies agree, and later, if necessary, to la-y an Imperial cable across the Atlantic. MELBOURNE, January 7. The Federal Postmaster-general approves of cheapening cablegrams. He says that if the Atlantic rates are reduced to twopence the rates to Australia can be reduced to 2s cd per woid.
