NEW ZEALANDS DUTY.
Alas for ill-fated Calabria! Alas for the I Sicily Isle! j Our blood is frozen in horror, as -we read I of the terrible trial i God has set on His people, and we, the more fortunat-e ones, Should humbly thenk our Maker, and pray he may guard our sons. Thousands and tens of thousands in a few hours met their doom : Oh, think of it well, ye people, for the world is shrouded in gloom. Men, women, and even children have each I felt the smiting hand — Oh, must wa rot, in our piiy, send heir to that grief-stricken land? Who could go on living his life in prs-pero-us ease While knowing the grim necessity of his brother across the seas? So opaa wide your purses— the command i of your conscience obey ; ! Prepare yourselves for dsnial to aid that land lar away. — Macd Watson.
