ATTEMPTED SUICIDE.
SEAMAN JUMPS OVERBOARD. WELLINGTON. January 10. When the barquentine Pelotas arrived at Wellington yesterday Captain Cozens reported to the police that one of the crew named Wilberg, while suffering from delirium tremens, jumped overboard on Friday off Palliser Bay. He was got on board again. A charge of attempted suicide has been laid against Wilberg. Mr W. G. Riddell, S.M., expressed the opinion yesterday that as the police stated the man was a lunatic he could not be allowed to land in New Zealand. The police are to make inquiries, and the matter will be further considered in the morning. January 11. Wilburg. a Swedish sailor, {Acadc I "Guilty" to-day to attempting to coinnat suicide on the high seas between (il - "borne and Wellington. The accused had been drinking heavily, and at 1.30 a.m. on Friday he jumped into the eea, but, vrae rescued. He \ras ordered to come up for sentence when called upon.
