THE WORLD'S CHAMPIONSHIP.
CHRISTCHURCH, January 7. A meeting of R. Arnst's supporters was held to-day to consider what steps should be taken regarding the cabled offers received from England asking the champion to race Barry on the Thames for the i world's sculling championship. It was ' pointed out that, according to the rules , yovetning the world's champion sculling contest, the holder of the title has tlw? right to name the place where the championship is to be rowed, and, in view of this fact, it was decided to despatch a cablegram intimating that Arnst is willing to race Barry and allow £200 ; for expenses, provided the contest takes j place on a colonial river about August ■ next. If a favourable reply is received ! a deposit will be at once lodged to bind the match.
