WEST TAIERI HORTICULTURAL SOCIETY.

SUMMER SHOW. The summer show of the West Taieri Horticultural Society was held in the Societies' Hali, Outram, on Saturday, and proved to be a very successful function, the entries, especially in the vegetable classes, beiiifj well above the average. The vegetable exhibits were particularly fine, the potatoes especially reflecting the greatest of credit upon their growers. In this connection the exhibition of Up-to-Dates and English Wonder tuber s is particularly worthy of mention, some splendid roots baing shown. Cauliflowers and cabbages w£re also well to the fore, there being- an especially noteworthy collection of the latter vegetable. The cut flowers formed a striking array, some beautiful blooms being 1 shown, although, as is to be expected, the general run of roses was not of the best. In the sweet peas some remarkably beautiful specimens were shown. < In the pot plant varieties there can be ; no doubt that the geraniums easily took th ■ palm, the splendid samples submitted being admired by all. Taken all round, the show was a complete success from every- viewpoint, the attendance being 1 very good. Mr F. Seaton (Mosgiel) was responsible for the judging of all exhibits, except in the cooking section, which was in the capable hands of Miss Charters. The hard-working secretary (Mr C. Mills) deserves a word of thanks for his extreme courtesy and attention. Following is tho prize-list : — POT PLANTS. Best cactus. Three entries — T. B. Grant 1, Miss Kemps'hell 2.
