A lady resident in Masterton, while walking in the cemetery one afternoon last week, had her first experience of .hearing the " ping " of a bullet from a weapon which mu3t have been fired in fairly close proximity- to her. She knows the peculiar sound now of which aha had c~o often previously heatd and read, but has no groat anxiety to have a repetition of a similar experience. ' ■' A character-judging expert says that he who -has white spots on his nails is fond of the society of ladies, but is fickle in his I attachments. He who keeps them well [ rounded at the tip is a proud man. Short nails betoken patience, good nature, and resignation under severe irials. Nails which remain long after being cut level with the finger-ends are a sign of generosity. J
