December 29. — The annuai school concept was held in the schoolroom on the 23rd inst., and proved a pronounced success iv every respsct. Mr M. M'Dowall. who presided, in a few introductory remarks, welcomed the large mdience, remarking that he hoped the next concert would be held in the new hell, which wa<s nearing completion. Th/ 3 programme prepared was ! very attractive, and each item evoked enthusiastic applause. Pianoforte solos were nicely played by Miss E. Simmonds. Several choru*=s were beautifully rendered by the school children, under the direction of their teacher. Recitations were nicely given by Masters John Nlinn and George llitchccck, and dialogues by-Masters M. and A. M'Dowall, Misses A. and M. Glover, N. M'Dowall, M. Stewan. M. Ronald, A. Pert, and M. Simpson. Pianoforte duets were played tastefully by the Misses Xunn, Misses Siinmonds and Nunn, and Misee's E. and AL Simmonds. An instrumental trio, piano and violins, by Miss E. Simmonds and Messrs J. Blue and J. Wilson was a musical treat, as also was a duet on the piano and banjo by Mr and Miss E. Simmonds. The song and chorus, "Merry Miller/ 1 by Master F. M'Dowan and schoolmaster, was heartily applauded. The glee -< Convent Bells " was nicely lendered by the Wikon family, assisted' by Misses Perfe and -Fimmonds. Vocal ~solo<3 were contributed, and in each cas^ hsartily applauded, by Mesdanves J. L. Wilson, A. Lvl'iJowall, T. Perc (accompanied by Miss A. Pert), Mise Simmonds, and Messrs Glover, J. Blue, F. Biue, J. Simmonds, and Master S. Glover. Mr W. Moylan gave several selections on the graphaphone which caused much amusement. Miss E. i SjmmoncU made an efficient accompanist. The prizes to the echool children were distributed by the chairman, who spoke a ' few kindly words to the prize-takers. Re- | freshments were provided in plenty, and > after votes of thanks to the visitors, the ] performers, and tba chairman, a most successful gathering was brought to a close. i HOI CBEEh. 1 December 26.— The Moa Creek School' breaking- up ceremony took the form of a concert and dance held in Mr Nevill's hall on December 18. The hall was crowded, and everything passed off most successfully. Thinks are due to the teacher (Mr J. Mackenzie) for preparing an excellent programme, and for the manner in -which he prepared the children. The hall was tastefully decorated by Messrs A. Hamilton, and Aston. The prizes, or which there were a .large number, were dieta-i-buted to the children by the chairman of the school committee. ' Pianoforte- solos were contributed in a creditabhe manner by Misses K.
