TIMBER CAST ASHORF.

SHIPPING DISASTTER SURMISED.

i What looks like a chipping disaster ha* been reported at the Bluff (writes our correspondent). Along the south-west coast, extending from Woodhen Cove, Resolution Island, to Coal River, west from Breakeea, the coastline, where at all accessible, has been piled up with Oregon pine logs, of all sizes and dimensions, some at the first-named beaches measuring 40ffc and 50ft. They were first noticed early in October, but it. was not until recently the extent of the deposit was ascertained, and it was upon that information, tho alarming nature of the discovery arose. My informant, who brought some of the pieces of timber on to Stewart Island, judges that the timber has been exposed , on the beaches from not more than six or eight months. In that opinion he is. partially confirmed by information obtained from other crafts operating 1 o-n the coast during that time. If this be not a case of wreckage it is seemingly a case of jettisoning, and the matter is put forward for s further investigation.
