BIGAMIST IN COURT. AUCKLAND, December 11.
Thomas Joseph Ladd was charged at the Police Court with having committed bigamy and having made' a false declaration to the registrar that he was a bachelor. The police stated that the accused was married in Sydney in 1894, deserted his wife, but continued to send her money. On September 23 he was married to Miss Christina Pepper at Warkworth. Cross-examintd, Mie* Pepper said she mijght have had a suspicion of the previous marriage, but did not know for certain. She had insisted that the accused should marry her, and he had been unwilling to do so. Some little time after marrying her Ladd told her he had a wife in Sydney. She would have done as she did if she had known Ladd was married, and intended to go back to him. The accused pleaded '•Guilty/ and was committed for sentence.
