CHRISTCHURCH NOTES. (From Our Own Correspondent.) December 14.

By way of a change, cricketers had to put up with -=odden fields and clow, tricky wickets on Saturday, ac well as a poor light from a heavily-overcast sky, and rain terminated play earlier than the usual hour. As was to be expected, the scoring all round was poor, and several bowlers got fine figures. Teams that had first strike were at a disadvantage, as the wickets improved as the day wore en. The fifth round of matches was commenced. Sydenham put Linwood in, and disposed of them for 189, to which H. C. Ridley contributed a useful 55, made in a careful, correct style. Wilding made 26, C. Amtman (promoted junior) 21, Doell 20, and Humphreys 12. - 'Bennett got six wickets, and the fielding was good. Sydenham made only 37 for the loss of three good wickets, and" it would appear that they are in a losing position. Bruges made 14- not out, and Neild 13 not out, R. Ridley getting two wickets and Humphreys one, while the fielding was very good. St. Albans started well against Riccarton, the first five batsmen making 101. but a "tail" followed, and all were out for 109. Mulgan made a fine 43 not out. and Bishop hit up 29, Allard 18, and Wood 11. Riccarton had lose its six best wickets for 90 rune when etumps were drawn, Anthony preventing disaster by batting finely for 52, and Ellis got 13. Sandman, the leg-break bowler, got five wiokets, and was supported by keen fielding. East Christchurch made 125 against West Chrktchurch. Addison got 36 by attractive play, and- was well supported by R. B. Ward and Kinvig (25 each) and Arnold (12). Malone was in his element, and got seven wickets. West ChristehurfiH made light of the tricky wicket, and when play ceased had 206 runs for six wickets— an excellent performance under the circumstances. Lusk got 71> which k his first decent . score of the season, but he was putting them up too much to "please the critics. Dan Reese made a- breezy 49, and Peak© batted really well for hie 1 35. Chrystall is not out with 14, and Weston got 10. Gordon got four wickets and Addison two. Senior bowling figures:— H. Ellis (R.)— 20ov. 4m. 45r.
