December 11. — The weather is extremely changeable, a few fine days being followed* by rain and hail showers and cold easterly winds. However, it is bettor than having] too much dry weather, and as the pasture' j is looking splendid as well as the crops, we j rmtst not complain. i Elections. — Mr A. O. Saunders was returned as a member of the County Council 1 with a large majority. Tourists.. — It is expected that the season; for visitors will be an extra busy one. AH the available accommodation at tho various boarding houses is being, taken up. The convention at Pounowea is attracting, a large number, and, should the weather take up in time, the meeting* ought to be well attended. Several prominent ministers will take part, and Mr Steven*, the singing evangelist, will lead the singing. - Scholastic. — Our school will break up for the summer vacation on the 18th inst. On the same evening a convert will be held 1 in Paterson'e Hall. A number of items will be given by ihe children. Christmas Tree. — The ladies of the Bontlst Church have been very busy for some time past preparing for their annual Christmas tree, which takes place on the 23rd.. Beside the tree there will be a good musical programme, and, should the night be at' all propitious, the entertainment ought to be woll attended. Show. — Our first show was held on Wednesday last and was well attended, all parts of the Catlin'e district being well repre1 eented. People came from Tahakopa, Tautuku, Rimu, Milton, Waiwora. and abonti 220 rook advantage of the Balelutha train to visit the district. There was quite n, larpre number of entries comprising cattle, she-op, doer*, dairy produce, poultry, piss, hoi^es of different kind's, while the ladio*' display of home-made bread, scones, OP.fcake, fancy butter, etc., made quite a good show. The Balclut'ia Brass Band, under the conductor (A. Wood), was present during the afternoon, and played a number of selection*. Our member (Mr Malcolm), with! Mr T. M'K>nzif\ was on the Grounds.
