WESTERN DISTRICT SHOW.

I (From. Oxte Ora Corbzspokdent.) INVERCARC4ILL, December 2. The Western Districts A. and P. Associsu I tion' bad splendid weather for their tw-enty-eighth annual show, which wae held in Mr C Foster's paddock, near tie Thornbury Railway Station, to-day. When the Otautau people, a lew vc-ars ago Endeavoured to induce the Western Association to hold 1 their annual show at Otautau every third! year, and failing, determined to hold « I show of their own, it was feared by tome that " the' new fixture would militate against ! the aucoessr of the older associations, but ■ this hae ndt proved to be the' case. The Thornbary- snows maintain their popularity, with the result that the entries this year are' much more numerous than last year, horses being 170, against 125 last year, cattle the same, and sheep and pigs considerably better. Thoughtne entries in the i horses, cattle, and 'sheep were good, pift» I w»»r'> badtv represented* and the' gnality rather poor, while dairy produce, thouftb ; hiMttii iii quantity, was satisfactory in quality- The harass were very gooct indeed* in quality, and the cattle and sheep satisfactory." Keen interest was manifested in tho draught mares, some dissatisfaction, having 'been caused at the Otautau show by, the judges placing Mr William Gray's wellknown mare Nellie Gray third wvd Sir John Bwan'a Rose O'Grady first. The judges mr the present ca«se (Messrs James Gaw, Winygatui, and D. Andrew, Mosgiel) had no ■"'difficulty -in patting Nellie Gray first, their * being' greeted with cheers, which were renewed when they subsequently awarded her .the champion ribbon. The •^mpetftion m horses was very keen, and- ' the • judges -expressed themselves as highly 1 pleased with the quality generally. In light" horses ;atsb- the competition wae keen, out in cattle' and sheep it was confined - to very few owfterar' The c*ttl« generally, call for no special -comment, except the fat stock, 'which wits very good indeed. Ids sheep Sfr J. B. Sutfeh wa3 the only exhibitor of Lineohftf, and took all the prizes offered in each cfcsff, while in Leicester* Messrs J. Kennedy,- 'A.
