Generous Testimony

IN PRAISE OF MERIT. Tha Cam of Mrs. E. MAOARTHURi

(BY A LOCAL RIPORTER.)

The generous stirring of neighbourly kindness that prompted Mrs. Ellen Macarthur to give the following information to our reporter has a beneficent radiation that will not he lost upon the residents of Woodhaugh, Dunedia, where Mrs. Maoarthur's house is situated on the main road* Tiie lady mentioned began by saying :— " In the spring of last year I was in a rery different state of health to what I am at the present time, for then I was experiencing much un happiness owing to tha sluggish condition of my liver. For a long; time previously I had been feeling unwell, but for a while I did not take much heed of Tny little ailments, thinking that they would perhaps go away as they had come — o« their own account. What a sorry mistake that was to be sure ! Do you know that att Ust I got so ill that for six weeks I was laid up in bed, and scarcely able to move from one side to the other. Oh !it was a terribly trying time, and I -pity anybody wh« suffers as 1 did then."

11 \Va« it entirely with tlie liv«r that you were tuffering ?" enquired the pressman. " It was, although at the time I did not know «vhat was the cause of my distress, as I thought I had lumbago, and was treating myself for that complaint. The pains in th« lower part of my baok were so dreadful that I had to uae hot fomentations and poultices on the part affected ; but ever* those remedies ouly fave me temporary re* lief. •When I got out of bed it wai ouly with a painfully slow and uncertain gaif that I went about, and, being so frightfully weak, I soon became exhausted; and had to •return to bed again, where I never alepb without having unpleasant dreams, aud more often than not I did not sleep until morning arrived. Awful plains in the righto bide and aches in all my limbs continually harassed me, and sometimes I had to endure headaches as well. I believe that the nasty bitter taate which came to my mouth every, morning had something to do with spoiling my appetite, which got very poor, and every* thing seemed to have the same flavor. Quite regularly I became troubled with iiatulenc* after taking my food, and the pains liker spasms that came to my stomach were almost unbearable. J It looked as though t was going to be subjected to all the ailment* that are possible to be experienced, as, itt addition to what I have already told you, I was frequently affected by turns of diizineM, and my nerves were getting weaker ever/ day." " And all that time you thought you had lumbago." " Yes ; and it was not till I read • Clements Tonic bookf that I really knew what was wrong with me, for in it tbero were several cases just like mine, Wher» people spoke of being cured of disordered fivers by Clements Tonic, and I thought itt wise to try the same medicine. The verjtj first bottle seemed to do mo a little good," and when I had finished my second tlifro, was not the slightest doubt in my mibd( that in Clements. Tonic 1 had got iutt th» right tiling for my ailments, as by that tinw the pains in the small of my back were so^ greatly reduced that there was no mor» need to resort to fomentations or anything) of that kiud, and the best part of the what* affair was that Clements Tonic not oalyj eased me, but gave me permanent relief from.my tortures. lam very pleased to be able to tell you that the prvina in my side also went, likewise the headaches, and for, restoring one's appetite I do not think them is anything to equal Clements Tonic, which was j'u3t us serviceable to my nervous sys-j tern, as my nerves were toned up to a> nicety. By a further use of that remedy V received a lasting release from all the painfulness which I had experienced wheh flatulence took hold of me after eating, thft bitter taste disappeared, and dizziness* ceaied to affect me. To one so weakened aa I was Clements Tonic is a sure friend, for its strengthening qualities were really won- 1 derful, and (o all who suffer as I did a year, ago I heartily recommend a course of the> tame medicine, my reason for so doing being; that Clements Tonic quite cured mft. ' " Then I may report your remarks V " Certainly. You may publish them ia any way."
