MORVEN

November 5. — The Morven Tennis Club, is having a most exceptionally successful season, and the membership is increasing daily. There are over 50 members, all very enthusiastic, and the crowd present every fine evening is proof of their eagerness. A match between east and west was played on Thursday last, and after a very close game the Sundowners were beaten by the narrow margin of two games. A euchre party has been arranged for Thursday -evening, 10th inst., and the ladies have kindly promised to provide a delicious supper on that ocasion. The members of the committee are working harmoniously together, and the result should be an addition to the club's funds.

The Weather. — Farmers, and in fact everyone, is looking anxiously for rain, which seems as if it U not yet ready to come. The crojv; arc feeling the effects of the prolonged dry spell, but owing to the heavy rain in the winter, the subsoil is riot as dry as it was last year.

Sports. — The local sporte have been arranged so that the horse racing will be held on its own day, and there will be a district picnic in the Steward Park on Anniversary Day. The new arrangement is on its first trial this year, and it is hoped that it will be a suecee?.

School. — The Morven School has ju«t reopened after beinpr closed for \ery necessary repairs and improvements. The building looks somewhat patchy at present, as only the new work has been painted. The school wa? examined by Mr Pitcaithly, and the repoit nlll be read at Ihe meeting to be hold on Monday evening. The school will be entitled to a, third teacher next year, and teachers and uupils are looking forward to a good year. The Central Examinations for Proficiency Certificates were held last week, and ihe results will be ready in a short time.
