EVILS OF IMPURE WATER.
It is certain that a large percentage of the complaints and deaths of chickens aro due -co -drinking impure or sunheated water or to overdrinking. Some chicks have an insatiable thirst, if allowed to develop it Naturally, they have not got it ; they are the descendants of jungle bu-ds accustomed to go for days without water. If kept without water for a month, they thrive well, and are curiously indifferent to the charms of Adam's ale when it 13 suppheJ. Chicks so brought up are not liable to blow them&elvcs out with water, even when grown up. Let plenty of sun and air into your brooders ; sun and light are the enemies of diseas? It is best to open all d<?ad chicks. • If there are green stains on the organs, liver and gall-bladder may he known to be disea-sd. This generally means that too little animal food has been given, and n.ore should be added to the diet of the survivors. But this rarely happens to birds on a free range, who can get animal fcod. It is mors likely to happen to birds on an enclosed run, who have been exclusively fed on grain. Above all, give your chicks plenty of exercise. Do not forget that in a "state of nature they would have to find their food," laboriously. Nature's sauce » a fine thing, so make them scratch and work for their food, if in confinement.
