BURGLARY AT NAPIER.

A HURRIED DEPARTURE.

NAPIER, December 2: - A burglar who entered the residence of Mr A. Williams last night received a warm reception. Mr Williams was away on a holiday, but hie wife and servants were sleeping in the house. In quest of booty the burglar disturbed Mrs Williams, who, on going to the top of the stairs, saw a light below. She returned to her* bedroom to procure a revolver, and the noise apparently alarmed the intruder, who sought to make good his escape. Mrs, Williams fired at the retreating form, but missed the first shot. At the - second attempt, however, she is believed to have hit him in the" shoulder, as he" dropped a big package containing jewellery, silvejware, and t£e keys of Williams and Sons' , warehouse. The police were immediately notified, but no trace of the burglar could be found.
