HON. V. L. SOLOMON. ADELAIDE, October 20. The death of the Hon., V. L. Solomon, member of the Assembly, is announcedT . [The Hon. "Vaiben X.ouis Solomon was born in Adelaide in. 1853. He resided in the Northern Territory from 1873 till 1886, conducting -a mercantile business and editing the Northern Territory Times. He was om& of the firsfc membera returned to the House of Assembly of " South Australia for the Northern Territory in 1890. rafter it bad been declared a separate electorate, and he represented .the 'district until he was elected to the Federal Parliament in 1901. He Was "Government whip to the Playford Government, 1890-91, and to- the Downer Government in 1893, Leader of -the Opposition, and for a short time Premier andt Treasurer in 1899. He was a member of the Convention which 'framed the Commonwealth Constitution in 1897-98, and of the House of Representatives from 1901 till 1903.] BEY. CANON DODD, The death is announced this week of the Rev. Canon Thomas Francis Dodd, in his seventy-fourth year. The deceased gentleman was ordained a deacon in 1881 and, priest in 1882. He was occupied in th<? .East Coast mission in 1881-83 y and was vicar at Balcluthe from 1893 to 1903, when he became vicar of Taieri districts. He was mad« a canon of St. Paul's, Dunedin, in 1895.
