(Fxom Oto Own Cobisespondikt.) i WELLINGTON, October 22. # The present financial stringency iff clearly indicated by the returns of the Pest Office Savings Banks of the Dominion just published. The following figures regarding th« amount of deposits and withdrawals for the third quarters in 1907 and 1908 respectively ere interesting: — Deposits. Withdrawals. 1907 £2,357,^677 ... £2,076,795 . 1908 £2,319,607 ... £2;332,140 The excess of deposits over withdrawals. for the third, quarter of 1907 was £280,681, -whereas for the corresponding period of 1908' there is an excess of withdrawal* over deposits of £12,532.
