CHRISTCHURCH, October 21. At the Aldington live stock market to-day there were- fairly large entries of stock and a good attendance. Fat cattle showed an improvement in price. Store sheep -were also in sightly better demand. Prime fat lambs sold at last week's rates, and the fat sheep sale opened at a decline. The yarding of store sheep was about equal to that of last week, two-thirds being hoggets, and the balance forward shorn wethers and a few pens of ewes and lambs. There was «, very good demand, and any change in prices was in favour of sellers. The favour- , able weather conditions and abundance encouraged buyers to operate more freely. There were 225 fat lambs penned, including a good proportion of very prime, and some lots that were on the small side. Ihe yarding of fat cattle totalled 228 head, and included gome lines of extra prime quality. There was a better demand shown than of late, and there was a. general advance in prices equal to about Is per 1001b. Prime steer beef made 25s to 295, medium 22s 6d to 24s 6d, and. cow and inferior 19s to 22s per 1001b. Steers ranged in price from £6 5s to £11, extra to £13 7s 6d; heifers, £5 12s ed to £10 2s 6d ; and cows, £5 to £10 sa. An average yarding of veal calves sold at prices from 4s 6d to 555, end extra well-grown and finished to £4. There was a full entry of store cattle, a large consignment from Southland being yarded. These were mostly light-framed, and in low condition. The local entries were in better order. There was not a. very keen demand, but some improvement was shown upon late sales. Yearlings made 16s to 22s €d ; two-year sisers, £2 12s Gd; tw-o-y^ar heifers, £2 3s ; three-year steers, in good condition, £4 5a to £5 7s Id; three-year heifers, £3 lla to £3 12s 6d ; and dry cows, 15s to £3 10s. The Southland cattle realised, for calves 14s, 12 to 15-moi»ths 245, 18-months 365, two-year-olds £2 10s ; two and a-half and three-years £3 ss. There was a very large entry of pigs, and all classes except choppers sold well. Choppers sold wp to £5; heavy baconeis, 60s to 80s; smaller, 50s to 58s — equal to 6d per lb; large porkers, 42s to 50s; lighter, 38s to 41s — equal to 6£d per lb; large stores, 35s to 40a ; and smaller, 25s to 345 ; weaners, 20s to 255. A line of 50 halfbred Tamworths made , 40s to 525.
