KAIKOURA.
October 21.— Political matters jure becoming interesting-. Five candidates are already in the field for the Hurunui seat, and it is understood eaoh will go to th« poll. Mr Olothier addressed his first meeting here on Saturday, and received an attentive hearing, and his political views met with the favour of those present. To forecast the successful aspirant would be no easy task, but the general opinion hero is that one of the Government supporters will secure the victory. New Wharf.— During the past month good progress has been made with the new wharf, and January should see the completion of the works. Weather.— The weather of late has been fine, and everything is looking beautiinT' and green. Young lamb 3 are doing exceptionally well, a-nd stock are in good condition. Feed is plentiful, and young crops coming on well. On every hand indications point to a successful season.
