! October 24.— After a long speil of dry weather, a welcome tain fell on Mondays last. Since then the* weather has bees* cold, v snow falling on the mountain, tops. Vciedictory.— Mr J. M. General Ekction.— M r W. Fraser, M.P.,. and SJr A. Martin are atill engaged i» addressing; the electors in the southern portion of the electorate. Mr Martin* speaks at Qucenstown cm Monday evening next. Mr Frasev opem his campaign at this end of the electorate, at Skippers, on November 2. He sgeaka at Queenstown onNovember 14. So iar, very little interest h being manifested at this end. Personal.— Mr J. A. Algie, formerly postmaster afc Arrowt'own, but now stationed in the Auckland province, is at present spending a holiday in the Arrow district, looking up old friends. Mr Algie has not been, in good health lately, but under the influence of Wakatipu's bracing climate, he is improving, and hopes to be his old self in a short time. Mr R. M'lntosh, inspector of mines, visited the district this week. He inspected the Macetown reefs and other mining properties. Wakatipu Prospecting Syndicate. — The) canvassers for shareholder? to the syndicate have been busily engaged in making a canvass of the district during the week, and have met with most liberal support. Up lo to-day the sum of £408 has been promised, and it is confidently expected that £500 will be obtained. A meeting of the sv-ndicate is to be held in Arrowtown on Saturday, November 7, when directorswill be elected. Residents of the districtare very enthusiastic over -the proposal. and> it is generally considered that -the scheme is an admirable one. As previously mentioned. Government has granted a subsidy of £2 to £1 up to £500, provided £250 israised.
