The following report-s from West Coast quartz mines have come to hand: — Progress Mines of New Zealand : During September the battery crushed 3715 tons of quart*, yielding bnllipn (including oyanide output £775, and concentrates made £330) to the value of £44^7. The development v.-ork in the mine revealed nothing of great importance. The north drive has now been connected with No. 1 prospecting winze, and ia being driven beyond, the face on the 10th insr. being 167 ft distant from the crosscut, whilst the south drive is 6^fr from the same point. No. 3 level norrh has 1 pen let on contract for 400 ft to Messrs j Bird and party. Here a. short blank has occurred, but the drive is again on quartz. {
