WEST COAST MINES.

The following report-s from West Coast quartz mines have come to hand: — Progress Mines of New Zealand : During September the battery crushed 3715 tons of quart*, yielding bnllipn (including oyanide output £775, and concentrates made £330) to the value of £44^7. The development v.-ork in the mine revealed nothing of great importance. Consolidated Cr.F. of New Zealand. — polden Fleeoe: Since the tributora started I work, on August 25, they have made steady j headway, producing sufficient quartz to warrant cr«&hing. The battery commenced work on ths 6th inst., crushing 16 hours a. day. — Wealth of Nations -. The development carried on during <tho month haa not revealed anything of importance. The rise which is being put up on the footwall reef of No. 9 level has now been connected through to No. 8, the ston© from the last 20ft being somewhat irregular. The battery crushed during August 1125 tons, yielding 34-loz lOdwt of | bullion, valued at JBI4OS 123 9d. At the cyanide works 1030 tons were treated, yielding bullion valued at £777 15s 3d. The Blaokwater RJines. — During September but little development work was done, with the exception of No. 1 level, where, driving north and south, a nice reef was followed, averaging fully 3ffc wide in th» former and approximately 18in in ilia latter. The north drive has now been connected with No. 1 prospecting winze, and ia being driven beyond, the face on the 10th insr. being 167 ft distant from the crosscut, whilst the south drive is 6^fr from the same point. No. 3 level norrh has 1 pen let on contract for 400 ft to Messrs j Bird and party. Here a. short blank has occurred, but the drive is again on quartz. {

t Two- thousand and eighty tons were 1 crushed, producing 1030oz 4dwtr of retorted gold, valued at £3900. At the cyanide works 1325 tons were treated, yielding bullion to the value pf £253.
