NEW ALPINE MINE.
(From Oto Own Co-respondent:) GREYMOUTH, October 22. The New AApine mine manager reports for the week ended October 20 as follows: During the -week the contractors completed their contract of sinking the main shaft to the total distance of 112 ft, and timbering same. The ladders have been placed in position, and the guides will be pat in as soon as we finish alterations to the winch in No. 10 level 6 , which will thenbe pushed on towards cutting the reef at the' new level. A start'Vwas made to-day to shift the winch in No. 10 to a new foundation, the old one being much decayed, ■ and! tne~<e»gineer expects to complete the same to-morrow . The contract for cutting the chamber and driving the crosscut of the 1 new level has been let to Messrs Papich and party, of I*yell, who are to -commence work on the 22nd inst. - The contract price was satisfactorily.
