WEATHER IN CANTERBURY.
- AGRICULTURAL PROSPECTS. CHRISTCHURH, October 19. Saturday and yesterday were particular^ fine days, and the sun shone out steadily and brightly throughout each of the twa days. In the shade t-he thermometer registered 66deg on Saturday and 69deg yestercUy. Canterbury, in her best spring attire, fitly describes the agricultural districts at the present moment. Now is the time when excursions into the country give the correct view of the surprising fertility of the land in the province. On aU hands there is a wealth of grass for the flocks and herds, .and crops of wheat, oats, and barley cover the broad aci^ea with a mantle of greennees and freshness, inspiring sanguine liqpes lor the future harvest. The indications regarding the gram yields and the dairy returns were never, more promising. The wheat fields display a deep healthy green colour, pointing to an absence of blight, aud a good! supply of root moisture that will carry them well into the toot eea&m if the' province experiences another dry spell. Sheep and lambs are in a most for ward. con* - dition, and some of the farms have begun shearing.
