RELENTLESS NATU RE.

Relentless Nature, 'neath your iron moods We' yearn in darkness here To find a place -where- death no more intrudes, Nor toil, nor want, nor fear. We see our dearest failing one by one — Tie body's ftfrce and fire , Sinks *s the glory of ihe golden son From pyramid and spire. The sadness of the approaching night is o'er The forest, field' and dell, And ominous sounds sure heard . along the shore, Where breaks the slow sea-swell. Be every moment big -with passionate life Of my allotted span — Faithful to mother, sister, daughter, wife, A mortal, yet a man. Strong to inspire a-nd brave tot calmly bear Whate'er the seasons bring; Tough-thewed for haxdy toil, humbled- for prayer, Eternal suffering— The fleeting joys that greet us on the way To mystery bsyond — The blessed light of some long before-gon-e day, , - Where memory lingers fond, -v O Life! O Death! O Mystery Divine f Fashioned of flesh and tears, We may not fathom that great life of Thine In these few fleeting years. The torrent falleth from the ferny hills, The sea along the sand; A starry glory night's great concave fills — Sublime the heavens expand. Re'entless Nature, did thine iron will Fashion eternal love, The soul that passioneth and prayeth still When hope but hopeless prove? Nay!
