Bx Petee Pan. 1 \ October 16. Dear Pasquin, — The amusement boom continued all this week, and on Labour Day evening there was not sufficient accommodation for seekers of pleasure. The three theatres were packed, »nd locomotion was a matter of difficulty at "Wonderland," where thousands enjoyed the novel amusements until a late hour. Bland Holt's Company is doing a wonderI ful business at the Opera House, the house being crowded every night. The management raised the prices on Labour , night — a move that was not appreciated 'by many. "The Breaking of the Drought" ■ terminates to-night, '"The Bondman" being I staged to-morrow. West's season, which has been euecesss ful, closes on Monday, the chow going on tour of the smalls of this province. Mr Bert Royle left this week for Auckland to prepare for "Mrs Wiggs ' of the Cabbage Patch." Mr Cathro will act as advance manager of this company. I Edmund Montgomery has booked Wanganui Opera House for December 15 and 16, boat race dates. You will be sorry to hear that Mr T. M. Donovan, of the Royal Picture Syndicate, is again laid aside by illness. H© left here for Wanganui on Monday, and on arrival at the river town had to bo removed to Mafeking Private Hospital. His partner, Mr Alf. Linloy. returned from a trip to Australia on Wednesday, and left the next morning to pee Mr Donovan. Mrs Doivovan left this mem ing also, she having been sent for. Word to-day, however, says that Mr Donovan is improving. At Easter time- Mr Donovan had to undergo* an operation for appendicitis, and it was six months before he »va« able to pet about again, co this fresh illncis is causing his friends anxiety. George Portus leaves to-morrow for the south to tell of the coming of Mark Hambourg. Eva Lee and .ier "pic>." with the inevitable biograph, are doing the smalls up here. When Mr Alf. Linlov was in Sydney a few weeks ago he enterod info arrangement for tevcrals novelties to be brought to the Dominion. The Burns-Squires Fieht Picture Company passed through Wellington for the south this week. "Jimmy" MacMahon iB chaperoning "Bill" Squires, who acts as lecturer to the show. Hugh Wilson, manager of Montgomery's Picture Company in Inveroargill, paid a flying visit here last week to consult with Montgomery. Miss Irene Ainsley, the gifted Auckland contralto, gave two recitals in the concert chambers of the Town Hall, but the patronage was -not in keeping with the vouncr lady's talents. She was assisted by Mra Queree, Hamilton Hodges, and Alfred Hifl. '
