THE VICTORIA HOME, SOUTHLAND.
We learn from the secretary of the Y'-c-ioiia Home, Southland, that while tho appeal recsntly made for financial aid has met with some l-esponse-, that response Las not co.me up to expectations, and the institution is hampered by want of funds to extend its scope. It is generally admitted ihat the management of the homo is as economical and its discipline as good as the most scrupulous could demand. Tho inmates contribute to their ow_n support as far as they are able, and they arc put in a fair way to recover the position lost by their misfortune. In this aim also the home has a remarkable record of success. For this work alone, if for no other i-eason, the liome has a strong claim upon tho community, and if the history of some of tho cases, that have passed through the home were made public, the appeal to sympathy and generosity would be irresistible. The people of Southland have a reputation to sustain in this matter, and when they roaliee (ho needs of tho institution, it is safe to say that thej will
respond liberally to the appeal now beins made.
