As^it ia evidemfc there have bieen of late a number of cases of contagious abortion in cows, it should be known that the Department of Agriculture is very desirous of investigating these oases. If a case is reported to the nearest inspector of stock the department will gratuitously afford the owner every assistance towards the successful treatment of the disease.
A large area is being sown down in white crops in the Palmerston district this, season, and it is estimated that the area under wheat will exceed that of last year by at least 50 per oent. The payable prices at present ruling for grain are no doubt responsible for the increased attention that is now being given to cropping by the farmers of tho district.
One hundred Corriedale -'-ram's were shipped for Sydney on Thursday by the Maheno on account of Mr J. Stringfellow, Cherteey.— Lyttelton Times. The output, of the German's Bay Cooperative Dairy Factory Company last season was 70 tons of cheese, a decrease of 20 tons compared wdth the previous year. The company was able to pay Is o£d. tlie highest price it had ever paid, to the suppliers, and' to pay a dividend of 5 per oent.
