The art union was held in aid of the Oddfellows* Hall. The Magistrate remarked that people must respect the law in such cases. The letter written by the Colonial Secretary in this case should have been quite sufficient for all reasonable people. There had been a somewhat similar case not long *go. The penalty for this breach of the law was not more than £100. Defendant would be fined £5 on eaqh charge, with 7s costs*
