The Summer Holiday Number of th« Pall Mall Magazine devotes more space ■than usual to fiction. "The Beauties oK Paris and Normandy," by Hedley Fitton, is an account of an artist's tour in searcht of the piotirresqiio, the illustrations, 'ncluding a frontispiece of the portal of a" churehf in Paris, being by the author. Much baa been written afcout the Thames afcove London, but Charles Pears in "A Voyage Down the Thames and Back" ebows tlutfi the river is not devoid of interest belof* the metropolis if a week is devoted tof voyaging down ami up in a small yacht. This article is also illustrated by tha author, one cf the plates being in colours. Mr H. G. Wella's "War in the Air" i< continued, the author in the number dealing with the manner in which the Americans attacked the German air fleet, which" had played havoc in New York. Clive Holland recounts some of the joys of ths art of caravanning, and M. P., in " Rour.d the World With a Camora," gives som« particulars of his voyaging in search -ol tho picturesque in out-of-the-way places. The times of King John are treated of in "The Pageant of England." and' B, F. Russy in " Forty Years of Parliament " contributes gome sketches of the statesmen and prominenf men who cut a figure ia the political world during nearly half a 1 century. The short complete stories include another episcde by Albert Dorrington in the life of Bully Hayes, the noted buccaneer. The illustrations axe, as usual, a feature of the number.
The Story-teller for August has over a dozen complete -short stories by such wellknown -authors- - as Baroness Orezy (authoti of " The Soarlet Pimpernel"), Nat Gould, E. P. Oppenheim, Frankfort. Moore, Leonard Merriok, Mayne- Lindsay, Curtis Yorke, Dorothea De&kin, Captain Frank Shaw, and others. There is also an instalment of a long, complete novel, "The Bubble Reputation." by Fred. M. White.. The demand for fiction appears to bo inexhaustible, and Cassell and Co. make every effort to maintain the supply.
